POSey Kitchen Screen System
Overview
The POSey Kitchen Screen system is an extra-cost option that may be used
in lieu of a remote kitchen printer (or printers).
Hardware Setup
A dedicated computer and monitor is required for operation of the POSey
kitchen screen system.__This computer is connected to a POSey Cash Register
computer with a NULL MODEM serial cable.__COM1 or COM2 may be used on either
computer.__If multiple Cash Registers or multiple kitchen screens must be
used, the connection may be made through a Baytech buffer box.
The kitchen screen system may be controlled using a standard PC 101
keyboard.__However, it is recommended that a MicroTouch UnMouse be used to
control the kitchen screen.
If you are using an UnMouse, connect it to the other serial port on the
kitchen screen PC, and to the keyboard port of the PC.
Register Configuration
For a single-Register, single-kitchen screen system, the Cash Register
should be programmed to use an Auxilary Printer type 18 on COM port 1 or 2.
The default communication parameters are 9600, N, 8, 1.
If you are using multiple Cash Registers or kitchen screen systems, the
kitchen screens may be used as Auxilary Printer type 12, which is the same
as that used for redirectional kitchen printers.__Kitchen screen colors, and
the amount of the sale, are not supported when using this setup.
Kitchen Screen Computer Configuration
The configuration file KSCREEN.CFG has the entries shown below.__If necessary,
you may modify this file with a text editor.
COM1:9600,N,8,1,RS,DS,CS,BIN____'*** Serial port configuration
2_______________________________'*** 1=Type 12 printer, 2=Type 18 kitchen screen
60______________________________'*** Seconds before order begins flashing
COM2:2400,N,8,1,RS,DS,CS________'*** UnMouse port (must be COM1, COM2, or NONE)
The first line contains the serial port configuration information for the
port connected to the Cash Register computer or Baytech Box.__Change the
"COM1" to "COM2" if you are using COM2 for this connection.
Line 2 defines the type of data transfer that you will be using.__If this is
a single Register connected to a single kitchen screen, this should be "2"
and the Auxilary Printer type should be set to 18.__If this is a multiple
Register or multiple kitchen screen system, this number should be "1" and the
Auxilary Printer type should be set to 12 on all Registers.
Line 3 specifies the number of seconds before a kitchen screen transaction
begins to flash.__Flashing helps to warn the cook that an order is old.
The last line in the KSCREEN.CFG file is the serial port configuration for
the MicroTouch UnMouse.__If an UnMouse is not being using, "NONE" should
appear on this line.__If necessary, "COM2" may be changed to "COM1", but
other parameters on this line should not be changed.
Kitchen Screen Startup
To start the kitchen screen system, run the KSCRN.EXE program on the kitchen
screen computer.__The KSCREEN.CFG file must be in the current directory when
running the KSCRN.EXE program.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT install the UnMouse driver from the MicroTouch UnMouse
installation disk.__The POSey kitchen screen system communicates with the
UnMouse directly ... if the MicroTouch UnMouse driver is installed, it may
interfere with proper operation of the UnMouse.
Kitchen Screen Operation
When orders are entered at the Cash Register, the information is sent to the
kitchen screen system when the order is cashed out ... or if using guest
checks, when the check is served.__The kitchen screen will display each order
on the screen as a list of items.__Four transactions may be viewed at any one
time, and other transactions may be scrolled into view by using the keyboard
or UnMouse.
On systems set up as Type 18, the color of each item displayed on the
kitchen screen may be specified using the Merchandise Class field of the
inventory record.__See the chapter, "Inventory" for more information.__This
feature is not available on systems set up as Type 12.
Four operations may be performed with the kitchen screen system.__These
operations, along with the keys used to initiate them are shown below;
____+_______Scroll left
____-_______Scroll right
____*_______Mark orders as done
____RET_____Show status summary
To perform these operations using the UnMouse, touch one of the regions
shown below;
+------------------------------------+
|________|__________________|________|
|________|______D O N E_____|________|
|________|__________________|________|
| <----- |------------------| -----> |
|________|__________________|________|
|________|____S T A T U S___|________|
|________|__________________|________|
+------------------------------------+
When marking an order as "DONE", the order at the left side of the screen
will be the one marked.__Scroll the desired order to the left side of the
kitchen screen, and hit the "*" key, or touch the UnMouse "DONE" region.
The POSey kitchen screen holds up to 100 orders, including those that have
been completed.__Complete orders are moved to the left, and are arranged in
the order in which they were marked done.__If more than 100 orders are
received by the kitchen screen system, the older completed orders are
removed from the queue.
